“Authentically Green Interiors: Optimizing Nature’s Design” is an educational course developed by Plants-At-Work, a national organization promoting the research and benefits of living plants in commercial interiors.

About the AIA CEU Program:
All active AIA members must successfully complete 18 learning unit (LU) hours each year, with at least 8 of the 18 LU hours relating to health, safety, and/or welfare (HSW).

Course Description:
“Authentically Green Interiors: Optimizing Nature’s Design” is a one-hour study of interior landscaping’s impact on Human-Centered Sustainable Design. This session presents the most relevant and compelling findings on the environmental impact of plants on people’s physical, psychological and behavioral needs within the built environment.

Learning Objectives:
Participants will be able to quantify the environmental contributions of live plants to a buildings’ interior. They will gain practical insight into the bottom-line and human-centered benefits to designing with interior plants professionally. At the end of the program, participants will comprehend exactly how the biophilia design factor (the human affinity for natural things) profoundly affects the well being and overall profitability of the modern build environment. Attendees will walk away with concrete suggestions as to how to use this design consideration towards LEED certification.

Learning Outcome 1: Evaluate and measure what our human behaviors and recent science demonstrate regarding biophilic benefits of live interior plants.

Learning Outcome 2: Comprehend and apply what these measurements mean for Green Building Designs.

Learning Outcome 3: Empower to initiate, plan and gain support for biophilic plant programs within the architectural process.

How Taught:
